Abertis, UNICEF and the Guttmann Institute travel to Jamaica and the Brazil to improve the treatment given to those involved in road traffic accidents

Abertis has taken yet another step towards fighting the main cause of death among school-age children: road traffic accidents.

Within the context of its partnership with UNICEF, Abertis has included a new area of collaboration with the Guttmann Institute to prevent and treat the injuries of children involved in road traffic accidents. Two medical teams specialising in the treatment of neurological injuries (spinal cord injury and acquired brain damage) from the Guttmann Institute are to travel to different countries to train and advise local practitioners.

During an initial phase, the teams are to visit hospitals in the Brazil and Jamaica, countries included in the UNICEF-Abertis agreement with a road accident rate among children that is considered a public health problem.

Since it began, the project has been supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, through the Secretary of State for International Cooperation and for Ibero-America and the Caribbean. The initiative was therefore presented at the Palacio de Viana in Madrid, with representatives from the three entities and from the Ministry, including Sergi Loughney, Chief Corporate Reputation and Communications Officer at Abertis; Javier Martos, executive director of the Spanish UNICEF Committee; Josep Maria Ramírez, managing director of the Guttmann Institute; and Fernando García Casas, Secretary of State for International Cooperation and for Ibero-America and the Caribbean. The two heads of the medical teams travelling to Jamaica and the Brazil were also introduced: Enric Portell, rehabilitation physician with over 30 years of experience in the treatment of spinal cord injuries; and Ignasi Soriano, occupational therapist and coordinator of the Child Rehabilitation Unit, both from the Guttmann Institute.

The exhibition Miró: la experiencia de mirar” (Miró: the experience of looking)was held at the National Museum of Fine Arts in Buenos Aires (Argentina) from 25th November 2017 to 25th February 2018.

In the previous summary we indicated that the artist Joan Miró maintained a close link with the avant-garde scene in Paris from his youth until a ripe old age. The exhibition sponsored by Abertis at the Grand Palais enabled the Catalan painter to return to the French capital.

In February 1917, Europe was immersed in the 1st World War. Pablo Picasso was 36 years old then, but was already a great artist who had started the Cubism revolution.
