The Abertis Foundation remains true to its annual commitment to the Catalan Red Cross and its campaign to attract new members. In 2018, we also supported the #EncaraNo (Not yet) campaign to fight family and child poverty.
According to the Red Cross Observatory, despite the fact that the worst of the financial crisis is now over, there are still many families with problems in meeting such basic needs as housing, food, energy supplies or education. In fact, 70% of these families are chronically poor. This is why we can’t lower our guard. Not yet. Within the context of #EncaraNo, different activities were held including the rugby match promoted by our Foundation between UE Santboiana and Barça Rugbi, the funds raised from the tickets to which went to the charity campaign.
Moreover, the Abertis Foundation has relied on the Red Cross to channel aid for victims of natural disasters and immigrants. Along these lines, it collaborated with the International Red Cross in 2018 to send aid anywhere in the world where it was needed.
One of the places in the world where there is great scarcity is in the small village of Gopulapuram, which belongs to the area of Kanekal in the region of Uravakonda, India. The Abertis Foundation, in partnership with the Vicente Ferrer Foundation, has therefore agreed to sponsor two boys and two girls from the village for ten years to provide them with the most basic items for the coming decade.
The Food Bank Foundation in Barcelona, which recovers any surplus food and distributes it among local organisations so that it can reach those needing it most, also receives our help. The Food Bank Foundation holds a grand food collection campaign every year before Christmas so that more vulnerable people have all the basics over the holidays. With the collaboration of almost all the country’s supermarket chains, thousands of volunteers receive donations of food from customers, which is then sent to the four food banks in Catalonia.

In the previous summary we indicated that the artist Joan Miró maintained a close link with the avant-garde scene in Paris from his youth until a ripe old age. The exhibition sponsored by Abertis at the Grand Palais enabled the Catalan painter to return to the French capital.

In February 1917, Europe was immersed in the 1st World War. Pablo Picasso was 36 years old then, but was already a great artist who had started the Cubism revolution.
