Brazil: 4th Segurança Arteris forum on road safety

Specialists from Brazil, Spain and the United States attended the 4th Arteris Safety Forum held in the city of Sao Paulo in September to discuss driving habits and trends and propose innovative solutions for improving road safety.

The Safety Forum is an initiative that has been promoted by the Arteris Group since 2014, and was created for the purpose of compiling and disseminating good practices, experiences and success stories in road safety around the world among the participants.

This fourth edition of the road safety forum was structured in three blocks: one focused on experiences, another on the challenges and a third on innovation. Sergi Loughney, Chairman of the Abertis Foundation, gave a talk on the Abertis Group’s Zero Accidents programme.

The meeting was also chosen by Arteris as the setting for the launch of its first driving observatory in Brazil, a study on the behaviour of drivers on the motorway network managed by the company. The conclusions of the study included the fact that over 48% of the passengers in the back seats of vehicles do not use their seat belt correctly, or that 29.6% of drivers in Brazil still find it hard to observe the speed limits.

The Abertis Group promotes the implementation of driving observatories in the countries where it operates so it can compile first-hand information on risk behaviours on the motorways and reach better decisions, which are then embodied in measures for improving road safety. The study conducted for the first time in Brazil is in addition to those presented previously in France and Spain, and the plan is to conduct similar studies soon in Chile and Argentina.
